The Argentina international arrives at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season after AC Milan agreed to end his loan stay at the San Siro, but missed the registration deadline to make his debut against Tottenham on Thursday in the EFL Cup.

Higuain’s arrival on what is initially a loan deal also means that Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata will be able to secure his loan move back to his first club, Atletico Madrid, although the Spanish club first need to offload Nikola Kalinic or Gelson Martins to meet Financial Fair Play rules.

Higuain, 31, scored 55 goals in 105 appearances for parent club Juventus having previously broken Serie A goal scoring records with Napoli, becoming the first player to score 36 top flight goals in Italian football history.
