PRESS STATEMENT

14th Marc

The Imo State Governor-elect, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha CON, has reiterated his commitment to reposition the state with the collective support of all well meaning sons and daughters of the state.

The Governor-elect stated this when he received in audience, Conference of Bishops, Anglican Communion, Owerri Ecclessaical Province led by Most Rev. Dr. Caleb Maduoma, Arch Bishop of the Province of Owerri, Anglican Communion and Bishop of Ideato Diocese, who paid him a courtesy visit at his Residence in Owerri, Thursday, March 14, 2019.

The former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, appealed to the men of God to help in advocating peace and mutual coexistence in the state. He promised to consolidate on his laudable achievements when he officially resume office as the Executive Governor of Imo State come May 29.

He called for unity among the clergies in the state to help him accomplish all his campaign promises to Imo people while also assuring that he is going to govern the state with fear of God, as well as run an open, transparent and accountable government with due process as its hallmark.

His words, “The Church is aware of our antecedents and accomplishments. Between us and you, it has been a very wonderful relationship.

“Our state has been in bondage. We thank God for harkening to our cries. Our salvation has come. We are humbled that God has chosen to use us as the vessels to get Imo to work again.

“It is our mandate and our decision that we shall serve the people of Imo State with the fear of God.
We are not going to revenge on anybody. We will want to leave the past behind us. Our administration will be that of good governance, due process, respect for rule of law, transparency, openness and accountability in governance.

“We shall try to restore our lost values. We shall try to restore our glory; the respect of an Imo man; the dignity of an Imo man. It is no doubt that our state is endowed with rich human capital and material resources. So we pray that God should guide us.

“But as a church, i want to appeal to other leaders of the church in the state that we should come together and let us get the state back to the ways of God.

“It won’t be very easy but when we have the collectivity of the church leadership, we will achieve good results. I believe that your fervent prayers will help us actualize our vision for our state.

“We will partner with you, the church to ensure that evangelism thrives in our state because I am conscious that when we fear God, then we are sure of doing the right things.”

Earlier in his speech, Most Rev. Dr. Celeb Maduoma said the visit was to join Imolites in thanking God for His will, which has prevailed in the state with the resounding victory of the Governor-elect in the just concluded March 9, 2019 election in the state.

The Bishop also appreciated God for affording the state a peaceful election exercise and prayed Him to use the Governor-elect to meet the yearnings of the people of the state when he assumes office.

The Christian fathers also prayed that God should equip him with all the wisdom, strength, good health, peace of mind and other divine favours to aid him to actualize the will of God for Imo people and the state in general.

Major highlight of the visit was the presentation of a Holy Bible and letter of congratulations to the Governor-elect by the Council of Owerri Ecclessaical Province of Anglican Communion.
