The ongoing crime, killings & abductions on the Emouha, Ndele-Rumuji axis of the East west rd, & parts of the Orashi areas in Rivers state recently is terrifying, alarming, despicable, & unacceptable!
Never in any week have we not witnessed one incident or the other on that road amounting to either the shooting or kidnap of Orashi (Ekpeye, Abua, ONELGA) indigines who mostly pligh through that road going back home! Just Yestrday a fully loaded 14 seater bus diverted in to the bush & the driver shot dead by these boys along this same axis!
In recent time we have seen Orashi people who must pligh through that road affected most than any other ethnic in Rivers state. The pain & agony of the gruesome murder of EFCC CHIKO & others plus abductions of uncountable Orashi indigines on that road is disheartening, still fresh in our memories & cannot be erraced in a hurry!
The Ikwerre Ethnic traditional council & Chiefs must quickly rise up NOW & call thier youths in Emouha to order to avert a possible breach of peace & not to soil the existing relationship existing for ages between the Ikwerre & Orashi people as brothers. The Emouha Council Chairman Chief Tom Alieze must wake up and take charge of his domain now or never!
Historically Ikwerre is the younger brother to Ekpeye & Ogba (ONELGA) from the same parental Akalaka dynasty in the Acient Benin kingdom & must learn to protect & love themselves & not to kill each other!
The Way Forward:
Of a truth government at federal, state & LGAs have failed woefully in her first & primary duty of protecting the lifes of citizens, & unfortunately its gradually degenerating to the era of state of nature described by Thomas Hobbes, as “nasty brutish & short”.
Therefore, to solve the problem, we must first address Root Cause(s) of the problem. We must address issues of hunger & poverty, Youth unemployment, lack of education/training, Political godfatherism, greed & insensitivity of Politicians (APC/PDP). The youths are disoriented & wrongly engaged by politicians who equip them with arms, & use them for thier biddings. So if we must get it right, the politicians & Government must disarm or retrieve the guns from the youths, grant a new Amnesty program, or exterminate them completely from mother earth. Sponsor education/Scholarships, Create jobs & skill empowerment programs to curb youth restiveness.
On this note, i call on Government at al levels, the President & Conmander-in-Chief, Muhamadu Buhari, the IG of Police, the Nigerian Army, Governor Nyesom Wike, Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa & our Politicians, to prevail over the situation & rise up NOW to condemn & nip the situation in the board before it becomes too late to handle!
I also call on the Ekpeye, Abua, ONELGA & Ikwerre political & traditional Leaders/Chiefs; the elites, the Uzugbani Ekpeye, the Ogbakor Ikwerre, the Ezue Abuan, & ONELGA Traditional council, the Ekpeye Youths Congress (EYC) Ikwerre Youths Movement (IYM), Abua Youths, ONELGA Youths, Orashi Youths Movement (OYM) to converge, brainstorm & discuss the solution to this problem staring deep in our face.
Remember, the fire is burning, if we refuse to do nothing about it, it will gradually consume us all. God forbid!
