Abia Gov’t Inaugurates Commitee on Prompt payment of Salaries

In fulfillment of his promise to ensure clearance of arrears and prompt payment of salaries and pensions of Abia state civil servants, the state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has inaugurated the committee on scheduling of modalities on clearance of arrears and prompt payment of salaries, pensions and allowances of civil servants and pensioners in the state.

Dr Ikpeazu while inaugurating the eight man committee headed by state Head Of Service, Sir Onyi Wamah at Government House Umuahia, charged members of the committee made up of labor leaders and government officials to come up with a template and recommendation that would ensure that henceforth no civil servant or pensioner are owed any salary, pension or allowance arrears in the state.

Represented by his Deputy Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, the governor gave the committee 14 working days to complete the assignment and come up with modalities that would make owing of salaries, pensions and allowances a thing of the past in the State.

The State Chief Executive used the occasion to reaffirm his determination to maintain and sustain the robust labour relationship with Labour in the task of taking Abia to the next level of development.

Responding on behalf of other members of the Committee, the Chairman and State Head Of Service, Sir Onyi Wammah assured the governor that they would work diligently and effectively to ensure that they come out with workable recommendations that will put to rest issues of all outstanding salaries, pensions and allowances in the State and thanked Government for finding them worthy to serve.

Other Members of the Committee include the Permanent Secretary Bureau Of Establishment, Elder Okey Ihedioha, the State Accountant General, Comrade Kelechi Imeoria, the General Manager, Abia State Passengers Integrated Manifest Scheme, Dr A.C.B Agbazuere who representing government’s angle while the representatives of labor Union’s include the state Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade Uchenna Obigwe, the State Chairman Trade Union Congress, Comrade Sunny Onwuma, the state Chairman of the Joint Public Negotiating Council, Comrade Chris N Okoro and the assistant secretary, Nigeria Union Of Pension, Elder Umah E Kalu.
