•describes petition by AAC’s Biokpomabo Awara as an exercise in futility
The Supreme Court has upheld an appeal filed by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, challenging the decision of the Court of Appeal which reinstated the petition of the candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, in the 2019 governorship election in the state, Biokpomabo Awara.
The Court upheld the election of Governor Wike.
A panel of three Justices led by Justice Inyang Okoro, said the petition of Biokpomabo Awara was an exercise in futility.
The apex court ruled that the hearing of an abandoned petition amounted to no other purpose, saying it was merely academic.
