On Monday  Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, has announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of both the state and local government Auditor-Generals for failure to perform their duties of offices efficiently.

Umahi made this known in a statement signed and forwarded to newsmen in Abakaliki by Dr. Kenneth Ugbala, the secretary to the state government and coordinating commissioner.

The statement reads in part: “Following the directive of His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State Engr. David Nweze Umahi, the State Auditor-General, Mr. Innocent Nweda and the Auditor-General for Local Governments, Ebonyi State Mr. George Ukpai are hereby suspended indefinitely from their offices with immediate effect.

“The indefinite suspension is a result of their failure to perform the duties of their offices especially the preparation and production of annual audited accounts of the State and the Local Governments respectively.

“During the period of suspension, Mr. Innocent Nweda should handover to the next most senior officer in rank, while Dr. U.S.A. Udu should take charge of the Local Government Audit as Acting Auditor-General until further notice.

“All handover and takeover should be completed before the close of work on Monday 13th July 2020” he stated.
