The Ebonyi State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government in the state of using the Southeastern security outfit, Ebubeagu, to attack and kill its members.

The opposition party made the allegation in a communique issued at the end of its meeting in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

The communique, which was signed by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim; the three senators – Sam Egwu (Ebony North), Obinna Ogba(Ebonyi Central), Ama Nnachi(Ebonyi South) – and other party stakeholders, alleged that the state government sponsored attacks on its members and supporters.

“It is difficult to hold Ebubeagu accountable for their crimes. What is more dangerous is the fact that since they operate in mufti, it is difficult to separate their activities from that of unknown gunmen and other criminals,” it added.

However, the Publicity Secretary of APC in the state, Ogbuatu Simbad in a statement, denied the allegation describing it as figment of the imagination of the opposition party.

According to him, the PDP is angered by the successes of the security outfit in tackling the deteriorating security situations in the state, stating that the party had not indicated support for Ebubeagu when it was being established.

“One wonders why? It is simple; the possibility that Ebubeagu has succeeded in emasculating the evil plans of these PDP stakeholders hence their incessant complaints about the outfit, cannot be ruled out”, he said.

Ebubeagu was established by the Southeastern Governors in April this year following a rise in criminal activities in the region.
