The Brighton star, Tariq Lamptey, has revealed the real reason he left Chelsea last year to join the Seagulls for just £3million.

Lamptey spent 11 years in the Chelsea academy, before finally making his first-team debut as a second-half substitute in their 2-1 Premier League win against Arsenal back in December 2019.

The 21-year-old said he left Stamford Bridge in a bid to get regular playing time elsewhere and to take his game to the next level and keep developing.

“I was privileged to be in a good place [Chelsea] where they allowed me to develop and I am grateful to them,” Lamptey told talkSPORT.

“But I feel it was time to try and get regular game time and just try and take my game to the next level and keep developing.

“In Brighton, there was a fantastic club who have a good plan and I saw it as a chance to take.”

Lamptey has been impressive for Brighton so far this season, with his pace causing all kinds of problems to defences in the Premier League.
