On Tuesday the trial of Honourable Farah Dagogo, a member representing Degema-Bonny Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, has suffered a setback at the Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt.

Dagogo is facing two counts of conspiracy and cultism preferred against him by the Rivers State Government.

The matter, which was scheduled for commencement of full trial before Justice Chinwendu Nworgu on Tuesday, could not go on following a letter by members of the state prosecution team of their engagement at the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt.

Defense counsel, Cosmos Eenweluzo had pleaded that the matter is stood down to make way for the return of the prosecution counsel from the appeal court before the trial would commence.

The trial judge, in his response to the request, however, asked that a new date be taken.

He thereafter adjourned the matter till the 10th and 13th of June for a definite hearing of the matter.

Speaking to newsmen outside the courtroom, one of the defendant counsels, Emmanuel Rukani claimed that the absence of the prosecution counsel may be an attempt to “delay the trial”.
