We could have won by more as Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard also had excellent chances as we controlled proceedings at Stamford Bridge.

Unai Emery was delighted to see Aston Villa take the “first step” of his tenure at Villa Park on Sunday.

The club’s new head coach, who began the role earlier in the week, watched his side secure a deserved 3-1 win against Manchester United at Villa Park.

Speaking to VillaTV after the match, Emery was happy with how his first game in charge unfolded.

“It was amazing to be here with our supporters in Villa Park,” he said.

“It’s the first day and I was so excited, and now I’m really happy.”

He added: “I believe in these players, and I know they have been underperforming.

“We have to take regularity in our way but sometimes they were showing the capacity.

“They may have been doing that before, but we have to play with regularity, be consistent, be disciplined, be organised and I think we made the first step today.”

The Spaniard’s debut in the Villa Park dugout was a historic one as it ended a 27-year wait for a home win against the Red Devils in the Premier League.
