There is palpable confusion among lawmakers elect over the delay in the issuance of proclamation letter for the Inauguration of the 8th Abia State House of Assembly by the Governor of Abia State Dr Alex Otti.

The 7th Abia State House of Assembly came to an end on Saturday 10th June 2023 as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution as amended.

Section 105(1) Says” A House of Assembly shall stand dissolved at the expiration of a period of four years commencing from the date of the first sitting of the House” to this end, the 7th Abia State House of Assembly stands dissolved.

Subsection (3) of the same section says” The person elected as the Governor of a State shall have power to issue proclamation for the holding of the guest session of the House of Assembly of the state concerned immediately after his being sworn in, or for it’s dissolution as provider in this section.

A House member elect who spoke to PUO reports on Monday on the condition of anonymity confirmed that they have not been notified about their Inauguration as the Governor is yet to issue the proclamation letter.

“I can confirm that up till this afternoon, we haven’t been notified about our Inauguration as the Governor have not issued the proclamation letter” he said
