Rivers: Fubara Promotes Peace and Unity Amidst Recent Political Crisis

In a press statement issued on November 3rd, 2023, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State addressed the recent political turmoil that unfolded in the state. The statement began by acknowledging the fire incident at the Rivers State House of Assembly, which took place on the night of October 29th. Although the blaze was extinguished by the fire service, the aftermath led to a division within the House of Assembly.

Two rival factions emerged, with one claiming to have impeached and suspended the House Leader and three others, while the other faction impeached the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. The situation escalated into a political crisis, causing concern and instability in the state.

Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his intervention and efforts to mediate between the conflicting parties. The governor also thanked the elders involved in resolving the crisis.

Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara also highlighted the collective responsibility of the immediate past governor, Chief Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, along with himself.
