Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, has lead attorney Aloy Ejimakor, who has expressed hope that the agitator will be freed during the upcoming court hearing.

The Federal High Court in Abuja’s Justice Binta Nyako has set March 19 for her decision regarding Kanu’s bail request.

After hearing arguments from Ejimakor, who was pleading for his client’s bail, the judge set the date.

The Federal Government’s attorney, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, fiercely contested to the bail request, nevertheless.

Kanu primarily based his request on the possibility that, should he be granted bail, he won’t be able to mount a strong defense and won’t have unrestricted access to his attorneys.

In addition, he stated that he had acute cardiac disease and acute hypertension.

The Federal Government objected, claiming that Kanu had previously been granted bail but had thereafter jumped and left the nation.

Following the court hearing, Ejimakor spoke with reporters, “We hope that Nnamdi Kanu will make bail on the high merits of his application.”

Recalls that the Court of Appeal had discharged and acquitted Kanu of all terrorism charges.

However, the Supreme Court sent Kanu’s case back to the Federal High Court in December 2023 so that the prosecution may continue.

This came about after the Supreme Court overturned the Appeal Court’s decision to clear Kanu of all terrorism-related charges.

In light of this, the court has set a new date for the hearing on Kanu’s terrorism charges—February 8.

But the trial was subsequently adjourned till Monday.
