Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for the now-defunct Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, has criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) decision to designate former governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello as wanted.

Bello didn’t need to be declared sought, according to Bwala, because the EFCC had all the tools it needed to take Bello into custody.

He questioned why Bello could not be treated by the EFCC in the same manner as Rochas Okorocha, the former governor of Imo State.

Due to a suspected case of N80.2 billion in money laundering, the EFCC had declared Bello wanted.

Additionally, the anti-graft agency told the Federal High Court in Abuja that it was thinking about calling in the Nigerian Army to help capture Bello.

This came after the agency failed to apprehend the former governor during a raid on his Abuja home earlier in the week.

Bello’s replacement, Governor Usman Ododo, made it possible for the former governor to avoid being taken into custody.

The former governor’s location has been unclear since the incident in Abuja, which is why the EFCC declared him wanted.

Bwala responded by posting on X: “Unless EFCC and Yaya Bello are both doing simulation for a movie about the agency and former governors, the press statement captioned “wanted” is not necessary.

“You were at his residence to effect arrest- you failed to apply ACJA or better still what you did to Okorocha at his residence.

“You knew who came and whisked him away- you allowed that

“Both him and the incumbent governor have security detail from police and SSS who must report activities including the whereabouts of their VIPs to their commands- meaning his whereabouts is not hidden

“You knew Police and SSS have surveillance instruments for geo-tracking and geo-locating- yet you failed to approach

“You are asking the general public to give you information about someone you have every reason to know his whereabouts. Please do your job without dramatizing it.”
