Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has advised President Bola Tinubu against serving as chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.
Ndume made the comment on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time.
The senator argued that Tinubu, as the APC’s presidential candidate and the person being presented to voters, should not personally lead the campaign council.
According to him, the responsibility should instead be handled by the party’s leadership, particularly the APC National Chairman.
Ndume said the President is the “product” of the APC being presented to Nigerians, while the party should take responsibility for coordinating the campaign.
He said, “If I had the ear of Mr President, he does not need to be the Presidential Campaign Council chairman. What is the party doing?
“The governors of every state should head the presidential campaign in their respective states, and there should be a coordinating team to coordinate them.”
Tinubu had last week constituted his Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 election and appointed himself as chairman.
Ndume’s position comes amid growing political activities and preparations by major parties ahead of the presidential contest.
