The All Progressives Congress (APC) governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, received an invitation to rejoin the party recently from the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu. Political analyst Uzokwe Ndubuisi criticized LP supporters for what he called “selective amnesia” in their response.

Concerned that LP supporters were acting hypocritically, Ndubuisi said, accusing them of ignoring Otti’s previous changes in party affiliation.

“Initially, I didn’t want to comment on this matter,” said Uzokwe in a statement. “However, it is infuriating that Labour Party supporters are so blatantly hypocritical, conveniently forgetting that their revered Otti did the same just months ago.”

The analyst outlined Governor Otti’s political career, pointing out that in 2020, following two failed bids in 2015 and 2019 to win the governorship of Abia State under the banner of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Otti joined the APC.

Otti, however, joined the Labour Party and subsequently won the governorship there after failing to earn the APC’s governorship ticket for the 2023 elections.

“Sometimes I wonder how people can ‘forget’ something that never happened, except perhaps through selective amnesia,” Ndubuisi said sharply.

Ndubuisi’s critique compared the responses of LP supporters to Kalu’s recent invitation with their activities during Otti’s vigorous campaigning in Imo State.

While Otti was commended for fortifying the LP, he said that Kalu’s gesture was met with media criticism, which Ndubuisi believes was planned by Otti’s group.

He was not called a monster by anyone. Ndubuisi noted that no social media influencers were paid to criticize him.

In addition, the analyst raised the question of whether Otti would devote the same amount of time to the Labour Party if he ran for office in Edo State, raising the prospect of comparable disputes.

Ndubuisi conjectured, “Let’s see if he will not assure his followers that LP will take over the government house of Edo State.”
