The latest Supreme Court ruling should not be construed as “a death sentence,” the Rivers State House of Assembly has been warned by the sociopolitical organization We Stand With Sim.
This was stated by the group in a statement signed by Edwin Woko, its organizer, at its general meeting on March 4, 2025.
While acknowledging the setback caused by the verdict, the group reaffirmed its support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara and underlined the importance of reconciliation.
It urged collaboration among all elected parliamentarians and suggested that Fubara reach out to Speaker Martin Amaewhule and the other 26 members.
The statement also urged the Assembly members to put their constitutional obligations first by concentrating on their legislative tasks and passing significant legislation that will benefit the Rivers people.
But if the politicians persist in their “frivolous and unwarranted” attempts at impeachment, the organization threatened to fight it in court.
