U.S. President Donald Trump has stirred controversy by implying that Ukraine could not make it through the conflict with Russia.
Trump was asked if he was at ease with the idea that he has halted funding to the nation and that Ukraine might not survive as a result during an interview with Fox News that aired on Sunday.
“Well, it might not survive anyway,” Trump retorted.
Trump claimed it takes two to start a war, referring to Russia’s more than three-year confrontation with its neighbor.
He said, “So now we are stuck with this mess.”
The U.S. government has drastically changed its stance on Ukraine under Trump, most recently cutting off all help for Kyiv, at least temporarily.
According to the White House, this was done to pressure Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, into engaging in peace talks.
The war started when Russia attacked Ukraine, and Trump has previously accused Zelenskyy of starting it. The Ukrainian leader was accused by the U.S. president of not wanting to put an end to the conflict.
The Ukrainian president has also been referred to by Trump as a “dictator.” The two had a serious falling out in front of the world’s media during a meeting at the White House.
The relationship between Trump and Zelenskyy has improved recently, but U.S. assistance to Ukraine is still on hold.
All things considered, the president of the United States has recently adopted a very pro-Russia stance in the war.
Trump, on the other hand, denied rumors that he was siding with Moscow, saying he has been more strong on Russia than anyone else has ever been.
