Suspected members of the notorious Lakurawa criminal gang on Sunday stormed Zagami village in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, abducting several Christian worshippers during a church service.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants, who arrived on motorcycles, disrupted the early morning worship with sporadic gunfire before forcibly taking an undisclosed number of congregants into the surrounding forest.

A worshipper, Mr. Ezekiel Danjuma, who narrowly escaped the attack, recounted the ordeal.

“It was terrifying. They came shooting and forced their way into the church. Some of us managed to escape through the back, but they took many people with them,” he said.

The incident has thrown the quiet farming community of Zagami into shock and mourning. Zagami is located within the Kebbi South Senatorial District, which includes Danko Wasagu, Fakai, Ngaski, Sakaba, Shanga, Yauri, and Zuru local government areas.

As at the time of filing this report, police authorities were yet to issue an official statement on the attack.

Concerned residents are calling on the Kebbi State Government and relevant security agencies to act swiftly to secure the release of the abducted worshippers and enhance security presence in the area to forestall future incidents.

PUO-Reports will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as they unfold.
