The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has called on the public to refrain from politicising his recent visit to the Vatican for the inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV.
Obi, who made the clarification in a post on his official X account on Monday, explained that his trip was purely spiritual in nature and consistent with his longstanding commitment to attending globally significant events.
He emphasized that although he did not participate in the Papal Audience—an engagement typically reserved for heads of state and diplomatic corps—the essence of his visit lay in the depth of the Pope’s message rather than in ceremonial appearances.
According to Obi, “The spiritual depth of the event lies in the Pope’s message, not in ceremonial interactions.”
