Senator Adams Oshiomhole has advised former President Goodluck Jonathan not to succumb to pressure to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the former APC national chairman said only Jonathan’s “enemies” would push him to return to the race, warning that such a move would damage his legacy.
“How can Jonathan be a threat? We defeated him before, when PDP was truly PDP. If a man had PDP at its peak, I think it is only his enemies that will push him into the ring,” Oshiomhole said.
He stressed that Jonathan has remained relevant and respected outside of power and urged him to sustain that image.
“That may not be helpful to him. I think he has managed to demonstrate that out of power you can be relevant and really at peace. If I were him, I would maintain this status and spend the rest of my life consolidating the relevance he has already found,” he added.
Jonathan, who contested under the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015, lost to the late President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress.
