An Abuja Federal High Court has directed all parties involved in the leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the case.

The order was issued by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik after a request for adjournment by one of the defendants’ counsel, who sought time to respond to the plaintiffs’ filings.

The suit was filed by Don Norman Obinna and six others, representing ADC state chairmen and state executive committees. Those named as defendants include the party, David Mark, Patricia Akwashiki, Bolaji Abdullahi, Rauf Aregbesola, Oserheimen Osunbor, and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The plaintiffs are challenging the legality of the interim national working committee led by David Mark, arguing that it lacks the authority to organize state congresses or appoint committees for such activities.

They are asking the court to affirm that their tenure as state executives remains valid and to restrain INEC from recognizing any congress conducted by the caretaker committee.

The case highlights ongoing tensions within the party over control of its structures ahead of upcoming congresses and political alignments.

Justice Abdulmalik also directed all parties to file necessary documents and warned against any actions that could undermine the court process. The case has been adjourned to April 23 for further hearing.

Meanwhile, the Mark-led leadership proceeded with plans to hold a national convention in Abuja, although the effort faced setbacks due to difficulties in securing a venue.
