Former Vice President and prominent member of the African Democratic Congress ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has asserted that he remains the most influential political figure in Northern Nigeria.

Atiku stated that no current or emerging leader in the region rivals his political reach or voter base.

He made the remarks during an interview on Arise News on Wednesday evening, where he evaluated the influence of notable northern politicians, including former governors Rabiu Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal and Nasir el Rufai.

According to him, while these figures maintain significant followings, none possess the broad electoral support he claims across the North.

“Can you tell who is a current leader in the North who has more votes than I have? Talking of leaders like Tambuwal, Kwankwaso, El Rufai and also the emerging political leaders, none of them have got that northern vote as much as I’ve got,” Atiku said.

He also argued that Kwankwaso’s political strength is largely limited to Kano State, noting that even within the state, support is no longer unified.

“Kwankwaso’s popularity is restricted to only Kano State. Kano is even now split between him and Governor Abba Yusuf,” he added.
