The Peoples Democratic Party PDP is set to hold a National Executive Committee NEC meeting on Monday at its headquarters in Abuja following the recent reopening of the party’s secretariat.
The secretariat had been sealed in November last year after a violent clash between the Tanimu Turaki led National Working Committee and the Abdulrahman Mohammed led caretaker committee, both of which laid claim to the party’s leadership.
However, an Appeal Court ruling in March nullified the Ibadan convention that produced the Turaki led leadership. The Mohammed led faction, reportedly backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, subsequently relied on the judgment to organise its own convention in Abuja.
The meeting is expected to be attended by members of the NEC aligned with the Mohammed led faction, including Nyesom Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, among others.
Further details are expected to emerge after the meeting.
