UK Envoys Engage INEC, Political Leaders Ahead of 2027 Polls

The United Kingdom High Commission in Nigeria has held a series of engagements with key political stakeholders and the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The High Commissioner, Richard Montgomery, alongside the Deputy High Commissioner, Gill Lever, visited prominent political figures and electoral officials as part of efforts to support Nigeria’s democratic process.

The development was disclosed in a statement shared on the Commission’s official X platform on Thursday.

The Commission expressed its commitment to collaborating with political parties and stakeholders to promote credible and inclusive elections.

“We look forward to working with all parties and the interns community to support inclusive and credible elections,” the post stated.

Among those visited were the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, as well as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Joash Amupitan.

According to reports, the visits focused on discussions around Nigeria’s political developments and preparations for the upcoming elections.
