Departing Manchester City FC manager Pep Guardiola reportedly warned his players against displaying the kind of attitude shown by Bruno Fernandes during the Manchester derby earlier in the season.
According to reports by The Athletic, the incident followed Manchester City’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United FC in September.
Rather than focusing on his team’s performance after the match, Guardiola reportedly highlighted Fernandes’ reaction during the game as an example of behaviour he did not want within his squad.
Fernandes was said to have openly criticised and berated his teammates after Phil Foden scored City’s opening goal while City players celebrated.
Guardiola reportedly had video clips of the moment prepared for his players in order to pass across a message that, although Fernandes is regarded as a talented player, such public criticism of teammates would not be tolerated at Manchester City.
The report added that Guardiola eventually left the Etihad at the end of a campaign in which Fernandes broke the assists record.
