In a major humanitarian intervention marking the third anniversary of the administration of Governor Alex Otti, the Wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has commissioned and handed over 35 dignity homes to 35 indigent widows across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.

The symbolic commissioning ceremony took place on Tuesday at Umuhute, Ahiake Ndume, Umuahia, serving as the central location for the initiative driven through the Office of the First Lady.

Describing the project as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to social welfare, compassion, and human dignity, Mrs. Otti stated that every widow deserves not only shelter but also peace, security, stability, and a renewed sense of belonging.

According to her, the intervention represents a new beginning for many of the beneficiaries who had previously lived under difficult conditions marked by hardship, displacement, and uncertainty.

She expressed gratitude to Governor Alex Otti for what she described as his compassionate and people-oriented leadership style, which continues to inspire impactful interventions across Abia State.

Mrs. Otti also commended the Special Adviser to the Governor on Policies and Interventions, Dr. Christian Uche Anokwuru, the Ministry of Women Affairs led by Dr. (Mrs.) Maureen Aghukwa, local contractors, and other contributors whose collective efforts made the project possible.

Beyond the housing intervention, the beneficiaries also received food items and cash support aimed at cushioning their immediate needs, while plans are reportedly underway to develop sustainable livelihood programmes that will economically empower the widows and support their families long-term.

The Wife of the Governor emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader commitment by the administration to support vulnerable groups, restore dignity to disadvantaged families, and build a more compassionate and inclusive society.

She assured that the government would continue to expand humanitarian and social support programmes capable of directly improving lives across communities in Abia State.

The event formed part of activities commemorating the third anniversary of the current administration in the state.
