A senior Iranian official, Ebrahim Azizi, has warned that Israel and the United States could face serious repercussions if ongoing military operations in Lebanon continue.

Azizi, who chairs the National Security Committee of the Iranian Parliament, joined other top officials in Tehran in issuing a public warning over the situation.

In a post on X, he stressed that Iran was prepared to respond if attacks on Lebanon persisted.

“If the assaults on Lebanon do not cease entirely, the repercussions will be dire for the Zionist regime and US forces in the vicinity.

“They are fully cognizant that this is not an empty threat, and we are ready for a military response.”

The warning comes amid heightened tensions across the region and growing concerns over the possibility of a wider conflict involving multiple actors.

Meanwhile, United States President Donald Trump disclosed that he had urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to withdraw Israeli troops from Beirut, the Lebanese capital.

Trump also revealed that he held discussions with representatives of Hezbollah, who, according to him, “consented to a ceasefire” against Israeli forces.

However, the office of the Israeli Prime Minister stated that Netanyahu informed Trump that military operations would continue if Hezbollah persisted in targeting Israeli communities.

According to the statement, Israeli forces would continue to “act as planned in southern Lebanon” if attacks against “our cities and citizens” continue.

The latest developments highlight the fragile nature of the security situation in Lebanon, with conflicting positions from key stakeholders raising concerns over the durability of any ceasefire arrangement.

Despite reports of diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation, uncertainty remains over whether the current tensions can be contained as regional powers continue to exchange warnings and military threats.
