The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), North West University Kano chapter, has called on the Federal Government and the Kano State Government to immediately settle outstanding allowances captured in the 2025 ASUU–FGN agreement.
The union warned that continued delays in meeting the obligations could threaten stability within the nation’s university system.
In a statement issued on Monday following its congress held last week, the chapter also expressed concern over the nonimplementation of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance and the Secretariat Assistance Allowance, both of which were expected to take effect from January 2026.
Speaking on behalf of the union, the chapter’s chairperson, Mansur Said, stated that despite several communications with the university management and the Kano State Government, “no significant progress has been made.”
He emphasized that staff welfare remains critical to maintaining stability and productivity in the university sector, noting that delays in implementing approved entitlements have imposed avoidable hardship on academic staff while contributing to the accumulation of arrears.
According to him, prompt action would have prevented many of the challenges currently being experienced by affected workers.
The union urged relevant stakeholders to intensify efforts toward achieving a swift resolution, stressing that fulfilling commitments made to university employees is vital for sustaining industrial harmony and advancing excellence in higher education.
ASUU further reiterated its commitment to dialogue but cautioned that its patience was nearing its limit.
“We expect that the necessary action will be taken without further delay in the interest of staff, students and the university community,” the union stated.
