Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately deregister the African Democratic Congress, Accord Party and other affected political parties from participating in the 2027 general elections over alleged constitutional breaches.
Justice Lifu issued the ruling on Monday while delivering judgment in a suit filed by a group of former lawmakers.
Following the judgment, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is the presidential candidate of the ADC, has effectively lost the platform on which he intended to contest the upcoming presidential election.
The ruling also affects Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, who was expected to seek re election in the August 15 governorship poll under the Accord Party.
According to the court’s decision, Adeleke is now disqualified from contesting on that platform unless further legal action alters the ruling.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026, was filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators against INEC and several political parties.
The parties affected by the suit include the ADC, Action Alliance, Action Peoples Party, Accord Party, and Zenith Labour Party.
