Senegal and Iraq remain in contention at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup despite suffering defeats to Norway and France respectively.

Both nations, however, are now on the brink of elimination, sitting at the bottom of Group I with zero points after losing their opening two matches.

Qualification to the knockout stage remains possible, but the path is extremely narrow for both teams.

Senegal and Iraq will face each other in a decisive final group match on Friday, June 26, 2026, at BMO Field in Toronto.

The winner of the encounter must secure victory by a convincing margin and then rely on a superior goal difference to qualify as one of the tournament’s best third placed teams across all groups.

For the losing side, the outcome is straightforward, defeat would result in automatic elimination from the competition.

With qualification hopes hanging by a thread, Friday’s clash is expected to be a high stakes battle as both teams fight to keep their World Cup dreams alive.
