The planned burial of 26 year old physiotherapist Mary Habila has sparked widespread public reactions, with many Nigerians demanding a thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Habila, popularly known as Mara, reportedly died on June 27, 2026, at the Ebonyi State residence of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, where she was said to serve as his personal physiotherapist.

Her family has fixed Friday, July 17, 2026, for her burial despite ongoing public calls for an autopsy and continued police investigations into the incident.

The case has generated significant attention following reports that her body was found naked inside the minister’s residence, prompting demands for greater transparency in the investigation.

Many Nigerians have taken to social media to question the decision to proceed with the burial before the conclusion of the investigation, with several users urging authorities to ensure a credible and impartial probe.

Some social media users also made allegations against the minister and expressed concerns about the integrity of the investigation.

However, these allegations remain unproven, and no court has found David Umahi guilty of any wrongdoing in connection with Habila’s death.

The police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
