Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni has said any presidential candidate seeking to lead Nigeria should be willing to appear for television interviews and engage directly with the public.
In a post shared on X, Oseni argued that candidates who consider themselves too important to participate in televised interviews are unlikely to serve Nigerians effectively if elected.
According to him, refusing to face public questioning suggests a disconnect from the citizens such candidates hope to govern.
“Any presidential candidate that is too big to appear for an interview on television will never serve Nigerians well. Such persons will be too big for the people, especially those that will never debate,” he wrote.
His comments come as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, having published the credentials and personal details of presidential candidates and their running mates.
Oseni’s remarks add to the growing public conversation on transparency, accountability and the importance of open engagement between political candidates and the electorate as Nigerians prepare for the next presidential election.
