The Action Alliance, AA, has issued a 48 hour ultimatum to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, demanding the inclusion of its candidates allegedly omitted from the commission’s published list for the 2027 general elections.
The party made the demand in a statement released on Sunday by its National Chairman, Chief Barrister Kenneth Udeze.
Udeze accused INEC of excluding candidates nominated by the party’s National Executive Committee under his leadership, despite what he described as a valid nomination process.
“The Court of Appeal has affirmed the legitimacy of the leadership under my chairmanship, yet candidates validly nominated by our National Executive Committee were omitted from the list published by INEC,” he said.
The AA chairman argued that the omission violated provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 regarding the publication of candidates submitted by political parties.
He maintained that the affected candidates emerged through properly conducted primaries held within the legal timeframe and should have been included in INEC’s publication.
The party urged the electoral body to urgently review the list and release an amended version reflecting its candidates.
“We are giving INEC 48 hours to correct this omission. If our concerns are not addressed, we will explore all legal remedies available to us. We also urge civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to closely monitor developments surrounding this matter,” Udeze stated.
The Action Alliance said it would take further legal steps if INEC fails to address its concerns within the stipulated period.
