Lionel Messi has been included in Argentina’s squad for the team’s upcoming international friendlies.

Argentina are scheduled to play three matches against Bolivia, Burkina Faso and Benin Republic during the international window.

Messi announced last month that he would retire from international football after 21 years with the Argentina national team.

The Inter Miami forward is expected to play his farewell match on October 6 in Buenos Aires when Argentina face Benin Republic, according to the Argentine Football Federation.

The match has been described as Messi’s final appearance for La Albiceleste on home soil.

However, it remains uncertain whether the 39 year old will feature in Argentina’s earlier matches against Bolivia and Burkina Faso before the meeting with Benin Republic.

Messi has enjoyed a record breaking international career with Argentina, winning the 2021 Copa America and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, among other honours.

His inclusion in the squad means fans in Argentina are set to have another opportunity to see the captain in national team colours before his international retirement.
