African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential running mate Rotimi Amaechi has revealed how he technically resigned from the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari before the end of its tenure.
Amaechi said his decision to further his education led him to seek permission from Buhari to attend university, resulting in him reporting to his ministerial office only once a week.
The former Rivers State governor served as Minister of Transportation under Buhari from November 2015 to May 2022.
He later resigned from the position in May 2022 to contest the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential primary election.
Speaking during an interview with AIT on Wednesday night, Amaechi recalled how he approached Buhari to seek permission to pursue his studies.
Amaechi said: “The next day, I went back to Mr President and asked, “Can I go to the university? He said, ‘Yes.’
“Then I applied. In the application, I said I wouldn’t be in the office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, that’s technically resigning from the government. The only day I came to the office was Wednesdays.”
