Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has described the former vice president as a leading voice in national political discourse ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Okonkwo made the statement on Friday, recalling Atiku’s role in Nigeria’s economic team during his tenure as vice president from 1999 to 2007.
In a post on X, the lawyer and former Nollywood actor credited Atiku with overseeing what he described as Nigeria’s strongest economy during that period.
He said: “Atiku is now the clear leader whom other candidates are following in every important national discourse. As the head of the economic team, between 1999 and 2007, and as the VP of Nigeria, he built the strongest economy so far for Nigeria. They paid subsidy and paid off our international debt.”
Okonkwo also expressed confidence that Atiku would restore fuel subsidy if elected president.
“Atiku is humane and humble. His promise to bring back subsidy is a reflection of his policy of putting people and their welfare first.
“Let us join hands and elect this great patriot into office come 16 January 2026 for the security and welfare of all Nigerians,” he added.
