Peoples Democratic Party chieftain Segun Sowunmi has criticised the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba Ahmed, for describing President Bola Tinubu as a failure.
Baba Ahmed, speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, said Tinubu inherited a country plagued by poverty, insecurity and weak institutions but had failed to deliver after three and a half years in office.
However, speaking on Vanguard’s Politics Hub on Wednesday, Sowunmi dismissed Baba Ahmed’s assessment and described him as a Northern kid.
“That’s a Northern kid. What did I say? He’s a Northern kid. When you behave like a kid, you are a kid,” Sowunmi said.
Sowunmi, who said he grew up and attended school in Kaduna, expressed concern about the development of Northern Nigeria.
He questioned how resources allocated to the region over the years had been utilised.
“All the resources that have been allocated to the North, where is the result?” he asked.
He argued that Northern leaders should examine their own records rather than blame Tinubu, citing the legacies of former leaders Tafawa Balewa and Ahmadu Bello.
Sowunmi also maintained that Baba Ahmed does not represent the views of the entire North, describing him as a “rabble rousing little rat”.
