The Sokoto State Government has shut down an office of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, over concerns surrounding the legal ownership of the property.

The state Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Barrister Nasiru Dantsoho, announced the closure on Monday, explaining that the decision was also aimed at preventing a recurrence of a recent confrontation involving party supporters and suspected troublemakers.

Dantsoho said government investigations showed that the property was registered in the name of the defunct Savannah Bank, with no record of any subsequent transfer of ownership in the documents examined.

He disclosed that the state government had contacted the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC, which manages the assets of the defunct bank, to establish the current ownership of the building.

However, the corporation had yet to respond to the inquiry.

The commissioner said the office would remain sealed until the NDIC provided clarification and the rightful owner of the property was established.

He urged individuals or organisations claiming ownership of the premises to submit relevant documents for official verification.

Dantsoho added that the building would be handed over to its legitimate owner once the ownership dispute had been resolved.
