Vice President Kashim Shettima has acknowledged the economic hardship Nigerians are experiencing under the Federal Government’s reforms but urged voters to give President Bola Tinubu another term in 2027.
Shettima made the appeal during the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign rally at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, Cross River State.
While defending the administration’s economic policies, the Vice President argued that their benefits were beginning to emerge despite the difficulties faced by citizens.
He compared Tinubu’s leadership approach to that of Singapore’s former Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, noting that difficult decisions were sometimes necessary to achieve long term national development.
Shettima urged Nigerians to assess the administration’s performance against the economic conditions it inherited in 2023, insisting that the reforms needed more time to deliver their expected results.
He also appealed to Cross River voters to support the re election of Tinubu, Governor Bassey Otu, Deputy Governor Peter Odey and other APC candidates contesting legislative positions in 2027.
Governor Otu, who also addressed the gathering, highlighted several federal infrastructure projects expected to benefit the state, including the Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway, the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport and the proposed Gulf of Guinea Commission Secretariat in Calabar.
According to the governor, the projects could improve transportation, attract investment and create employment opportunities.
Otu urged residents to support the APC at all levels in the next general elections.
He also identified the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as one of the Federal Government’s interventions aimed at reducing the financial burden of tertiary education on families.
The rally was attended by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, members of the National Assembly, APC governors, party officials and other political stakeholders.
