Ruben Amorim has been formally named as Manchester United’s new manager.

Amorim will stay with Sporting Lisbon until November 11th, the Red Devils confirmed in a club statement on Friday.

This implies that a Premier League trip to Ipswich Town will be the 39-year-old’s first game in command.

Amorim has agreed to a contract that will expire in June 2027, with an additional year’s option.

In addition to his €10 million (£8.4 million) exit clause, United has paid Sporting an additional €1 million (£840,000) for an early release from his 30-day notice period.

He will take over for Erik ten Hag, who was fired on Monday. Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in a stand-in position until Amorim arrives.

On Sunday, United will play Chelsea at home in a league match.
