Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has supported the impeachment of Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
According to reports, the Speaker was impeached by assembly members on Monday for allegedly committing several financial and statutory violations.
The State House of Assembly’s new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda Ojora, was later chosen.
Igbokwe responded promptly by expressing support for the impeachment on his Facebook page, claiming that the troubled Speaker had not been collaborating with Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the state governor.
He wrote, “The deed is done in LAHA!!! Hon Mudashiru Obasa impeached as Speaker Lagos State House of Assembly for gross misconduct and abuse of office. Hon Mojisola Melanda Ojora is the new Speaker”.
Commenting on his own post, the APC chieftain wrote, “He was on Governor Sanwo Olu neck for years. Every attempt to persuade him to work the Governor fell on deaf ears. Many interventions by GAC members did not help matters”.
