Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has pledged to personally meet with retired police officers who staged a protest in Abuja on Monday, demanding better retirement benefits and improved welfare for serving and retired personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

The assurance was conveyed through the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, who engaged with the protesting retirees earlier in the day.

The demonstration, which took place in Abuja, was led by Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), alongside other activists. The protest aimed to highlight grievances over the treatment and entitlements of police retirees.

In a statement posted on its official X handle, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that the FCT Police Commissioner had met with the retired officers and that plans were in place for Egbetokun to meet them at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The statement also revealed that attempts were made by individuals with ulterior motives to hijack the protest, but security personnel were able to maintain order.
