Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has warned Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta that his cautious team selections could cost the club their Premier League title ambitions.

Neville, speaking on The Overlap, criticised Arteta’s decision to bench Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Martinelli in favour of Mikel Merino and Leandro Trossard in the recent draw against Manchester City. He argued that Arsenal looked stronger only after Eze and Martinelli came on in the second half to help secure a point.

He suggested that Arsenal players and fans alike may be questioning Arteta’s tactical choices in big matches, including recent outings at Anfield and Old Trafford.

“He’s going to regret this if he doesn’t take the handbrake off,” Neville said, adding that Arteta often fields overly defensive lineups in crucial games.

Neville maintained that Arsenal have the quality to win the league but must show more attacking intent.

Arsenal, five points behind early leaders Liverpool, face Newcastle United this weekend as they aim to bounce back in the title race.
