Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees member Bode George has criticised the Federal High Court ruling that halted the party’s planned national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan.
The order was issued on Friday by Justice James Omotosho, who barred the PDP from proceeding with the event amid ongoing internal disputes.
In a statement on Saturday, George described the ruling as shocking and dangerous for Nigeria’s democratic stability, cautioning that such judicial decisions could set a troubling precedent.
He argued that political parties should be free to conduct their internal affairs without unnecessary court intrusion, except in cases involving clear constitutional violations.
“This judgment will consume this country. This is a threat to Nigeria’s democratic stability. It is time the judge removed his wig and gown and joined politics,” he said.
George called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the National Judicial Council to intervene, stating that judges must focus on interpreting the law and refrain from involvement in party administration.
