Former Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has attributed Chelsea’s inability to secure a victory over Arsenal to Moises Caicedo’s early red card.

Chelsea and Arsenal settled for a 1-1 draw in an intense London derby at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Caicedo was shown a straight red card in the 38th minute after a VAR review. Despite being reduced to 10 men, Chelsea took the lead in the second half through a header from Trevor Chalobah before Arsenal equalised via Mikel Merino.

Chelsea have now picked up seven red cards in 20 matches across all competitions this season.

Speaking on his podcast, Mikel criticised the team’s discipline:
“That’s four red cards this season; it’s not good enough. I’ve spoken about it—the manager needs to talk to the players because it’s costing us games.”

He insisted Chelsea would likely have won the match if they had kept all eleven players on the pitch.
“If you look at that game, if we finished with eleven men, I think we could’ve won. Maybe not easily, but comfortably, we could’ve secured a win,” he added.
