The Abia State Chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has elected Hon. Dr. Prince Onukwue as its new State Chairman for the 2026–2028 tenure, following a keenly observed electoral process held in Umuahia.
The election took place on February 14, 2026, at the premises of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), marking a formal leadership transition from the outgoing executive led by Hon. Nelson Uluocha of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
Out of the 19 registered political parties in Abia State, 17 party chairmen participated in the exercise, reflecting broad representation across the political landscape. The election was supervised by IPAC National representatives in collaboration with INEC officials and monitored by security agencies to ensure transparency, credibility, and adherence to due process.
Composition of the New Executive (2026–2028)
Hon. Dr. Prince Onukwue of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) emerged as State Chairman. Other elected officers include:

• Dr. Larry Charles Esq. (Action Peoples Party) – State Secretary
• Mrs. Charity Kalu (Action Alliance) – Assistant Secretary
• Hon. Chris Onyekachi Okorie (Youth Party) – Publicity Secretary
• Hon. Ogbonnaya Uma (Accord) – Treasurer
• Hon. Dr. Kenrry C.O. Ibekwe (National Rescue Movement) – Organizing Secretary
• Hon. Okezie Kingsley (Peoples Redemption Party) – Financial Secretary
• Hon. Barr. Uba E. Obasi (Social Democratic Party) – Legal Adviser
The newly elected executives were sworn in immediately after the conclusion of the voting process and have since commenced official duties.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Onukwue expressed gratitude to fellow party chairmen for the confidence reposed in him. He commended IPAC National, INEC officials, and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and credible exercise.
He pledged to foster inclusive leadership, emphasizing that every member party would be carried along in the Council’s activities. Reiterating IPAC’s advisory mandate, he assured stakeholders that the Council would maintain constructive engagement with the Abia State Government—supporting progressive policies while offering objective criticism where necessary in the interest of democratic growth and good governance.

Observers note that the emergence of Dr. Onukwue signals a new phase for IPAC in Abia State, with expectations of strengthened inter-party collaboration and a more coordinated political interface ahead of future electoral cycles.
