A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Buba Galadima, has said that if Nigerians could vote out former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 over insecurity, the ruling All Progressives Congress could face an even stronger backlash.
Galadima made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.
He cautioned that Nigerians may respond decisively at the ballot box if prevailing economic hardship and insecurity persist, stressing that public frustration should not be underestimated.
The NNPP stalwart criticised the policies of the APC led Federal Government and rejected claims that living conditions have improved under the current administration.
He also expressed concern over what he described as growing intolerance of dissent, lamenting reported arrests and detention of young Nigerians for expressing their views on radio programmes.
According to him, the authorities should not assume that citizens are indifferent to governance challenges or incapable of reacting.
“Now things start small, small. You don’t know how they can blossom and become something else. They shouldn’t play.
“If you can remove Jonathan’s government for a simple insecurity in the Northeast, what would you be doing to the APC government? I think we have to cut them into pieces,” he said.
Galadima’s comments add to the widening political debate ahead of the 2027 general elections, as opposition figures continue to criticise the government’s handling of security and economic matters.
