The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has attributed the recent wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to internal crises within the opposition party.
Morka made the remarks during an appearance on a morning programme on Arise Television while reacting to the increasing number of defections from the PDP to the ruling APC.
According to him, the PDP can no longer effectively function as a political party due to its internal problems and inability to provide a credible political platform for its members.
“The PDP is no longer able to call itself a political party. The PDP is incapable, by its own internal dysfunction, of offering its members any sensible, credible, smart, actionable platform to pursue their political aspirations,” Morka said.
He argued that the defections to the APC should be seen as an endorsement of the ruling party rather than evidence that Nigeria is moving toward a one-party state.
“When people decamp to the APC, it is an endorsement of the party. It is a statement that the APC is able to offer what the opposition cannot offer, and that is not our fault,” he added.
Morka also dismissed claims that Nigeria is drifting toward a one-party system, describing such concerns as misleading.
“When people suggest that the country is turning into a one-party state, that is utterly mischievous because it does not take into account the history and realities of a democratic society like we have in Nigeria,” he said.
His remarks come amid continued defections of political figures, including governors, from the PDP to the APC.
