The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Sly Ezeokenwa, has explained the party’s decision to align with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing the need for broader political cooperation.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Monday, Ezeokenwa stated that achieving an Igbo presidency requires national support and cannot be realized in isolation.

According to him, no candidate of Igbo extraction can secure the presidency without forming alliances with political blocs from the North or the western region.

He also noted that APGA shares a common ideological foundation of progressivism with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

“Political parties have what we call ideologies. If you go to the manifesto of APGA, you will see the ideology of APGA as a political party, and our ideology primarily, is founded on progressivism, which is the ideology that we share with the APC.

“Now we are saying that if you look at the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, look at the manifesto of APGA and look at the manifesto of APC, one thing is common.

“What we share in common is the progressivism that we all profess, that at the end of the day, the most important thing is that we entrench progressive ideologies that is going to better the lot of Nigerians.

“Now, what we are going to do as a political party is that we align with Mr President, because we believe that based on the coalition or the accord that came into force before 1999 when we say that there is rotational presidency eight years for the North, eight years for the South,” he said.
